Former republican president and Congolese political heavyweight Joseph Kabila Ikwange has been to attend US President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony on Monday, 20th January 2025 in Washington DC.
Kabila is among is on the list of high profile personalities to attend the ceremony which is normally attended by the seating head of state of foreign countries but Trump’s administration has decided otherwise in the case of the DR Congo.
The Trump administration has chosen Kabila to represent the DR Congo at the important event and left out seating president Félix Tshisekedi.
Meanwhile, Kabila’s entourage has since confirmed the DR Congo honorary former president’s attendance at the ceremony.
Kabila has recently held talks with Trump’s close ally and multi-billionaire Elon Musk in France ahead of the President-elect’s swearing-in ceremony.
At the ceremony, Kabila will have the chance to renew and strengthen his relations with America as well as several other critical members of the international community.
