Democratic Republic of Congo’s clueless President Félix Tshisekedi is proving to be a stumbling block in the efforts being made for the restoration of peace in the war-torn eastern region of the country.
Angolan President Joao Lourenço, the official AU appointed mediator for peace talks between DR Congo and Rwanda, has expressed his dissatisfaction with Tshisekedi’s recent outburst and attacks against his predecessor Joseph Kabila during his visit in Brussels, Belgium.
In a publicly televised interview, Tshisekedi accused Kabila of being leader of the M23/AFC rebel movement and the main instigator of violence in the east.
In the same interview, Tshisekedi also laid offensive remarks against his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame.
President Lourenço visited Kinshasa and met Tshisekedi and expressed his disappointment with the Congolese leader’s conduct which has ruined his efforts to achieve a lasting solution to the conflict in the east.
President Lourenço further urged Tshisekedi to adopt a more measured attitude to avoid causing more tension with the situation already at a precarious state.
Before arriving in Kinshasa, Lourenço had been in Kigali, Rwanda where he attended President Paul Kagame’s inauguration and held discussions on the prevailing situation in the east.
