The United States has encouraged the Democratic Republic of Congo to ensure a free and fair electoral process in the forthcoming December 2023 polls to spur security, economic and developmental transformation in the country.
On Wednesday, a delegation from the American Development Agency (USAID) led by Assistant and Administrator to Africa Monde Muyangwa paid a courtesy call on DRC Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde in Kinshasa to discuss matters relating to the electoral process and humanitarian situation in the country.
Mrs Muyangwa encouraged the DRC to uphold fairness and transparency in the upcoming elections accord the country with a bright future.
“Related to the holding of free, transparent and peaceful elections, which will allow the DRC to be able to express its aspirations for the future. These elections are not only important only for the DRC, but also for the rest of the African continent” Muyangwa said in an interview.
Mrs Muyangwa also revealed that during the meeting with Sama Lukonde, humanitarian issues were also at the center of discussion particularly with ongoing insecurities in east DRC.
“We also talked about humanitarian issues in the eastern part of the DRC. And the fact that the USA constitutes the most important bilateral donor which is providing support which saves human lives, the lives of several million people in the eastern part of the DRC, and the measures that we are called to take it together so that these people have a little bit of dignity” she added.
