The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) could be in for more dilemma due to the continued political instability experienced in the country which is extending into the ruling government of Félix Tshisekedi which is about to divide.
Tshisekedi’s political ally and Deputy Prime Minister of Transport Jean-Pierre Bemba, a war crimes ex-convict, is planning to stage a coup d’etat in the capital, Kinshasa.
Bemba, who is the leader of Movement for the Liberation of Congo (MLC), has received support from senior officials in the Tshisekedi regime to take over government before the advancing AFC/M23 rebels led by Corneille Nangaa reach Kinshasa and seize power.
Tshisekedi has been left helpless with supporting missions such as the MONUSCO and SAMIRDC abandoning his cause to fight and stop Nangaa and the AFC/M23 from advancing from the eastern region.
Having joined the Union Sacreé political coalition with hope of succeeding Tshisekedi, Bemba realizes his chances of ruling the DR Congo will be over with the potential take over by Nangaa and the AFC/M23 rebels.
Bemba has since started mobilizing his forces with Lualaba Province Governor Fifi Masuka-Saini committing US$50 million investment as her contribution to the rebellion.
