END OF THE ROAD: DR Congo’s Olympic Journey Ends Without a Medal

The road for the Democratic Republic of Congo at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has ended without a medal.

The last two Congolese athletes were the nation’s only hope, Dominique Lasconi Mulamb and Divine Miansadi, saw their campaigns at the Summer Games come to an end on Saturday.

In athletics, Dominique Lasconi Mulamba, was in the 100 meters category, having qualified for the second round with a time of 10″54, to finish third and was narrowly drafted.

In the second round, he improved his time to 10″53, but finished in 7th place in his series, thus failing to progress into the semi-finals.

In swimming, Divine Miansadi
participated in her series, but failed to rise among the best as she finished last.

With the elimination of all the six athletes present in Paris, the DR Congo’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has been underwhelming.

The country remains among the 25 countries never to have won an Olympic medal, a statistic that Congolese sports leaders hope to change in the future.

The DR Congo must now begin prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which will be held in Dakar, Senegal.
