END OF MANDATE: Tshisekedi Must Leave Office On Jan. 23, 2023 With Or Without Elections – Fayula

Opposition leader Martin Fayulu says President Félix Tshisekedi’s mandate as leader of the Democratic Republic of Congo will end at midnight on January 23, 2024 with or without elections.

Fayula, widely reported as the winner of the election in 2018, says Tshisekedi usurped the powers of the presidency through a backdoor agreement with Joseph Kabila but must know that it is coming to an end.

The Ecide leader has cautioned Tshisekedi against using the war in the east as an excuse to defer the election.

“Whether there are elections or not, he must pack his bags and leave on that date. We will not compromise on the constitutional deadline,” Fayula warned.

President Tshisekedi has been testing the waters by hinting elections will be delayed due to the unrest in the eastern parts of Congo.

He made the remarks at the UN Security Council in Switzerland a week ago. The Head of State also repeated those fears when French president Emmanuel Macron visited the country this past weekend.

The DRC is due to go for the election on December 20, 2023 to elect its president and national assembly representatives at both national and provincial level.
