The Christian civil society and 2023 DR Congo Presidential elections observation mission CENCO-ECC has urged the Electoral Commission CENI as well as the Constitutional Court to oversee an inclusive electoral process in the upcoming 20 December polls.
The CENCO-ECC has urged the two bodies to provide each candidate or political party equal rights and opportunities according to the provisions of the Congolese constitution.
In a statement released on Tuesday, CENCO-ECC coordinator Cyrille Ebotoko encouraged the CENI to withstand any amount of pressure or force that it may face in its jurisdiction of delivering an all inclusive and democratic election this December.
CENCO-ECC’s statement comes after a reported scheme by the incumbent President Fèlix Tshisekedi to use CENI and Constitutional Court to invalidate leading opposition candidates.
Popular opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique President Moïse Katumbi has so far had his candidature contested with two petitions submitted including one from fellow presidential bidder Noel Tshiani.
Tshiani’s petition as well as another from a surrogate Tshivuadi Mansanga Junior have both lacked the merit to be presented before the Constitutional Court.
However, Tshisekedi as the mastermind behind the two petitions remains determined to bleach the the Congolese law just to ensure Katumbi does not appear on the ballot on election day.
