The Alliance Fleuve du Congo (AFC) & M23 Rebel-coalition have issued a threat to reactivate its military operations in eastern DR Congo following the Congolese government-backed Wazalendo fighters’ disregard of the ceasefire agreement between the two parties.
The Wazalendo militia supported by the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC) have in recent weeks continuously violated the ceasefire by instigating attacks and seizing several villages of South Kivu Province where the rebels had not maintained permanent presence of its fighters.
The AFC/M23 rebels have since been angered by the Wazalendo and FARDC’s military operations even while delegations from the movement and Congolese government continue to engage in peace talks under the mediation of Qatar in Doha.
Meanwhile, a sense of mistrust between the two parties has been noticed in Doha during the peace talks in Doha where the talks remain at the preliminary stage.
