DO NOT MIX FOOTBALL WITH POLITICS: Mazembe Fans Hold Peaceful Demonstrations Against Tshisekedi Government’s Injustices Against The Club

Democratic Republic of Congo’s club football emblem TP Mazembe’s supporters have taken to the streets of Lubumbashi to protest against the unfair treatment of the club by ruling government.

Mazembe who have brought the highest honour by winning the Champions League a staggering five times, remain the nation’s most successful club and perennial representative in continental and international competitions.

However, Mazembe have been affected by club President and investor Moïse Katumbi who is considered any enemy by the Republican President Fèlix Tshisekedi and the government for his own political ambitions away from football.

Tshisekedi has ordered the authorities to cut off all form of financial assistance to Mazembe for the past three seasons while other clubs representing the country in continental competitions have received the monies from government.

Mazembe have also suffered other injustices at the hands of the government including aviation authorities constantly rejecting the club from flying out of the DR Congo for their international assignments with the club owned plane.

Meanwhile, Mazembe supporters also complained about the multiple harassments which the club suffered at the hands of the customs services who refused the entry of the club’s equipment and other materials, which prompted that the Ravens to play their African Football League (AFL) match against Espérance Sportive de Tunis of Tunisia in Dar-es-Salam, Tanzania.
