DIVISION IN THE ALLIANCE: Tshisekedi Sends Augustin Kabuya After Vital Kamerhe

Division has been engulfed the ruling Union Sacreé alliance where a political battle between heavyweights Félix Tshisekedi, the Republican President, and National Assembly President Vital Kamerhe is brewing amidst growing tensions.

Kamerhe, the leader of the UNC party, has sworn to challenge Tshisekedi, President of the UDPS faction, who intends to go for an illegal third term in 2028.

Tshisekedi has swindled Kamerhe in their initial agreement which stated that he would handover the leadership in the Union Sacreé after serving his final mandate in 2028 in exchange of the latter’s support in the 2023 elections.

The Belgian-citizen Congo President has however set his sights on a third-term and has plans underway to amend the constitution in order to make himself eligible in 2028.

In response to Tshisekedi’s betrayal, Kamerhe has set up a clique with common interests of exposing the president and his various Illegalities surrounding his government and later succeed him.

Tshisekedi in turn now instructed General Secretary of the Union Sacreé Augustin Kabuya to counter Kamerhe and his camp’s plans.

Last week on Wednesday, Kabuya chaired a meeting at the UPDS headquarters to discuss about the so-called UNIKIN scientific conference headed by Kamerhe where plans to unseat Tshisekedi were availed.

Tshisekedi has issued instructions to Kabuya to weaken Kamerhe and his allies with former Minister of Economy Augustin Matata Ponyo Mapon one of the first targets.
