DISCIPLINARY SEATING ON: CAF Institutes Investigation Into DRC-Morocco Brawl During AFCON Match

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have confirmed that it has instituted investigations into the incidents that transpired in last Sunday’s 1-1 draw between the DR Congo and Morocco at the ongoing 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

A brawl between the two sides broke out soon after Kenyan referee Peter Waweru blew the final whistle at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pédro as Leopards captain Chancel Mbemba got involved into an altercation with Morocco coach Walid Regragui.

The altercation between Mbemba and Regragui sparked after the Moroccan gaffer appeared to have made some utterances that did not sit well with the Olympique Marseille defender.

Some reports suggested that Regragui had made racial comments to Mbemba who reacted angrily.

The arguments had initially started in added time when Mbemba went down with the Kenyan referee calling in a stretcher which the player refused to get on and had to be forced to step out of the field before coming on and got yellow carded.

The feisty confrontation between the two sides escalated into the tunnel where the two sides are said to have exchanged blows.

Achraf Hakimi put the Atlas Lions of Morocco in front after 5 minutes but the DR Congo would equalize later on in the second-half through midfielder Silas Katompa to share the spoils.
