Republican President Felix Tshisekedi’s former presidential advisor Vidiye Tshimanga has officially retired from active politics after the Kinshasa/Gombe Court of Appeal threw out his appeal to contest the election of the ruling Sacred Union candidate Daniel Bumba governor of Kinshasa following a fraudulent and corrupt electoral process.
Tshimanga who stood as an independent candidate, saw his bid to become governor of Kinshasa fail after garnering just 10 votes against 37 of UDPS candidate Daniel Bumba while the Court of Appeal declared his request as unfounded to confirm the election of the latter as head of the capital.
“With respect for our future generations, I believe that I have done my duty. From now on, let us consider that any motivation in money or in kind will no longer be considered corruption. It is high time for me to leave politics to those who master its twists and turns. May God preserve us,” Tshimanga said after the Court’s ruling.
An independent candidate in the April 29 election for the governorate of Kinshasa, Tshimanga had accused Augustin Kabuya, secretary general of the UDPS, of being involved in a vast system of corruption aimed at favoring Daniel Bumba Lubaki.
In his request to the Court of Appeal of Kinshasa/Gombe, the leader of the DCU denounced the distribution of vehicles to provincial deputies, and asked for the cancellation of the provisional results published by the CENI.
