Lutte Pour Le Changement (LUCHA) have strongly condemned the abduction of seven youth activists by agents from the National Intelligence Agency (ANR) in Kinshasa.
LUCHA, group which fights rights that protect the Congolese people’s freedom from infringement, revealed that four of its members were among the activists who were bundled into a jeep and taken to an undisclosed location.
The incident happened in Kinshasa while the activists held peaceful rally to call on the government to address the security situation in the eastern part of the country.
In a statement released on Tuesday, LUCHA strongly condemned the abduction of the activists and cited Tshisekedi for having failed to manage the security situation in the east while repressing those who campaign for peace.
“The LUCHA vigorously denounces the kidnapping and secret detention of comrades Bienvenu Matumo, Crispin Tshiya, Fred Bauma, Jean Paul Mualaba and 3 other activists” the statement reads.
“It is inconceivable and particularly revolting that Felix Tshisekedi, who has proven incapable of securing the Congolese over the last 5 years, sends his services to persecute those who peacefully denounce insecurity.”
Rights groups and critics have repeatedly accused President Felix Tshisekedi’s administration of stifling dissent and freedom of expression.
