Salomon Kalonda Della’s hearing failed to take off on Monday as the opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique President Moïse Katumbi’s special advisor could not be allowed to take stand in court due his deteriorating health.
In police custody since May 30 when he was arrested at Ndjili International Airport in Kinshasa, Kalonda’s health has been deteriorating over the past few weeks with doctors declaring him unfit to take stand in court.
On Monday, Kalonda’s lawyers revealed that their client had to be transferred to a specialized health centre to receive necessary medical care as his health worsens with the case now adjourned to 9th October, 2023.
“The doctors did not release him today for health reasons, the case is now adjourned to October 9, our client has been transferred to a hospital much more specialized to treat our client as his health has deteriorated further” one of Kalonda’s lawyers, Gérard Ledi said.
The prosecutors are due to respond to appeals made the defense team who have questioned the court’s competence for their decision to bring Kalonda, a civilian, to appear before a Military Court.
Kalonda has been accused of conspiring with M23 Rebels to overthrow President Fèlix Tshisekedi among other charges that he has denied entirely.
