A man in his 40 has neen killed by a stray bullet during an exchange of gunfire between Guards of Republican President and Police officers in the Democratic Republic of Congo capital Kinshasa on Thursday.
According to Charly Luboya, the mayor of Kalamu district in Kinshasa, the clashes broke out after the Republican Presidential Guards launched an attack on the Makala sub-police station with no clear motive identified.
Law enforcement responded from Matonge sub-police station in the Kalamu district, responded in retaliation leading to an exchange of fire.
The victim, who was accidentally shot and died on the spot, was taken to the Mabanga Yolo morgue.
Officials from both sides fled the scene after the incident.
“The authorities have opened an investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of this violence and identify the perpetrators,” announced Charly Luboya.
