Minister of Interior Security and Customary Affairs Peter Kazadi says the DR Congo has seen a drop in the rate of cases urban crime by just 26% in the months of June and July.
In a report read by government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya at the 108th Council of Ministers Meeting held on Friday, Kazadi attributed the drop in cases of crime to the National Police and Defence Force patrols that had been carried out in the urban communities in the last two months.
“There was a 26% drop in cases of banditry in urban areas between the months of June and the month of July. This drop is justified by operations carried out by the Congolese national police and especially by the effects linked to mobile courts organized by the Attorney General of the Republic at the Court of Cassation within the premises of the Ministry of the Interior. These hearings having served as textbook cases to dissuade all recalcitrants” the report read.
With just four months remaining before the Presidential Polls in December, the Ministry of Interior Security urged political parties to tame acts that are likely to bleach peace in the community amongst their members.
“On the political level, acts likely to cause disturbances to public order have been recorded in some provinces. Facts whose perpetrators are recruited from among the members of certain formations and political groups, hence the call for responsibility launched to the various political leaders” the report also read.
Urban crime has been rampant particularly in the DR Congo capital, Kinshasa that has seen an upsurge of juvenile delinquencies by the famous “Kuluna” group of young boys that perpetrate serious crimes including kidnapping, theft, violence and vandalism.
