COUP TRIAL: Defendant Trialed For Declaring End to Tshisekedi’s Regime

Paka Tady Thomas, one of the accused persons in the failed coup d’etat attempt on 19th May 2024, was on Monday 22 July, questioned for having allegedly shouted “It’s the end of the regime!” during the incident at the Palais de la Nation.

Like many other fellow co-accused persons in the case, Paka Tady Thomas claims to have been forced to participate in the failed coup attempt by Christian Malanga.

He claimed to have been coming from work within an NGO before he was abducted and forced to carry a weapon and join Malanga’s troops.

Paka Tady Thomas is among 51 defendants who are being prosecuted for terrorism, illegal possession of weapons of war, attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, murder, and financing of terrorism.

These offences punishable by death penalty, which has already been prescribed by the Public Prosecutor while the case has since been adjourned to Friday, July 26, 2024.
