CONGO LOSING THE BATTLE: Nine Trucks Loaded With Rebels Set Base, Target Goma Capture

After recruiting over 700 new soldiers into their ranks barely last week, the M23 rebel group have received new set of elements who have settled at a strategic territory of the province of North Kivu.

At least 9 trucks full of M23 rebels arrived at the Kibumba axis as the rebels continue to strengthen their elements around the main cities of Goma and Sake, the civil society in North Kivu have revealed.

“Two days ago, they attacked the positions of the volunteers for the defense of the homeland, in other words the Wazalendo in Masisi. And in Lubero, they also attacked the locality of Kikuvo and Katwe, It must be recognized that the M23 has no intention of stopping the war of conquest. He is, in any case, preparing for assaults on large cities,” the civil society warned.

The Civil Society further disclosed that the M23 rebel fighters have continued to overlook the ceasefire agreements between the DR Congo and Rwanda but have rather taken advantage of the situaation and gained control of more territories to edge closer to the main cities of the province.

“They don’t respect anything. While they talk about a ceasefire, they say they are not concerned by this ceasefire and that it is the business of Rwanda and Congo,” complains Jean-Claude Mbabaze, who points to the latest M23 statement.

“This proves a de facto balkanization, especially since a government plane is prevented from flying over the air that they describe as their home. This is proof that these people want to create a state within a state,” says this member of the civil society of North Kivu.
