Late Catholic priest Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya’s prophecy of DR Congo president Félix Tshisekedi’s dubious move to hold the nation by ransom has come to pass.
Cardinal Pasinya, a respected Catholic priest and human rights defender who passed away in July 2021, had warned that Tshisekedi would attempt to temper with the nation’s constitution.
“The DRC is not a plantation that a president received from his father to decide what he wants to do with it,” Cardinal Pasinya said in 2019.
Tshisekedi’s attempt to change the constitution in order to extend his stay in power could see him leave office willingly or by force at the end of this mandate in 2028 as the nation continues reject his ambitions.
