CHAMPIONS AGAIN: Mazembe Claim 20th Congo Ligue 1 Title Crown

Lubumbashi giants TP Mazembe have been crowned champions of the 2023/23 Linafoot Ligue 1 for the 20th time in the club’s history.

Mazembe rallied to a 3-1 victory over Aigles du Congo this Wednesday afternoon to maintain their exceptional run this season.

Goals through Oscar Kabwit, Fily Traoré and Bafill Diouf were enough for Lamine N’diaye’s to dispatch their opponents from the capital Kinshasa and kickstart the festivities in Kamalondo this afternoon.

The five-time CAF Champions League winners have finished the season top of the Ligue 1 play-off table with 32 points, three ahead of second-placed AS Maniema Union of Kindu.

Mazembe have suffered only one defeat in the Ligue 1 this season which came at the hands of Maniema Union, with the two clubs set to represent the DR Congo in next season’s CAF Champions League.

After finishing third, AS Saint-Eloi Lupopo will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup where they will be accompanied by the winner of the 2024 Congo Cup.
