CEASEFIRE DISREGADED: Congo Government Sponsored Militia Group Opens Fire at Border with Rwanda

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo have once again gone against the set agreements in the ongoing Luanda peace negotiations with Rwanda in a move that could be detrimental to the efforts for sanity to return to the eastern region.

Exchanges of gunfire were heard at the DR Congo border with Rwanda on Thursday as the Wazalendo militia group sponsored by the Congolese government through President Felix Tshisekedi attacked the neighboring country’s territory.

Sources have revealed that the Wazalendo opened fire at the small border fence between the DRC and the Rwanda initially an armed man, commonly known as “Muzalendo” who was later joined by his cohorts in firing towards Rwanda.

The Rwandan army are reported to have responded to the gunfire although no official source from either country has confirmed the incident so far.

A ceasefire agreement was last week signed between the governments of DR Congo and Rwanda in the Angolan capital Luanda where the two nations are locked in peace negotiations.
