French President Emmanuel Macron has called for the resumption of peace talks at the highest level to resolve the M23 crisis in the DRC.
President Macron said this during a joint press conference with the Angolan president João Lourenço, the mediator for peace talks between DR Congo and Rwanda.
The French leader stressed that priority in the Great Lakes region must go to dialogue and the search for lasting peace, while respecting the territorial integrity of the DR Congo.
He equally called for a cessation of hostilities and a de-escalation of the situation in eastern DR Congo where the M23, allegedly supported by Rwanda, continue to capture new territories.
A scheduled meeting in Luanda between DR Congo president Félix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame failed to take off last month after the latter pulled out.
