Congolese giants TP Mazembe have been drawn in a “group death” featuring two of their past rivals following the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League draw conducted in Cairo, Egypt today.
Mazembe will face 2017 African champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Egyptian heavyweights Pyramids FC as well as group stage debutants FC Nouadhibou in Group A of the premier continental club competition.
The face-off between the Congolese giants and Sundowns promises to renew the rivalry between the two sides having last met in the 2020/21 edition of Champions League with the South Africans winning both ties.
The five-time African champions made their return to the group stage of the Champions League after a two year absence as they saw off Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets 5-0 on aggregate.
The first round of matches for the group stage has been set for the weekend of 24 and 25 November.
In the meantime, Mazembe will prepare for their fierce Quarter-final confrontation with Tunisian heavyweights Esperance Sportive des Tunis in the inaugural African Football League competition set for the 21st of October.
