Democratic Republic of Congo’s envoys in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League TP Mazembe have been drawn against Angolan side Atlético Petróleos de Luanda in the quarter-finals following draws conducted on Tuesday, 12th March in Cairo, Egypt.
Having qualified as runner-ups in Group A after a decent campaign, Mazembe will meet Petro who finished top of Group D with 12 points, undefeated and did not concede a goal during the group stage campaign.
Mazembe and Petro will be meeting for third time having faced each other back 2009 Champions League campaign at the First Round with the Congolese giants running out 3-0 winners in Lubumbashi before picking up another 2-1 victory in Luanda.
Current coach Lamine N’diaye was again in charge of the Ravens in that season and guided the club to the Champions League which he hopes to replicate this term.
Mazembe will host Petro in the first leg on 29th March in before traveling to the Angolan capital five days later to complete the tie.
The draw conducted at CAF headquarters in Cairo saw three other mouthwatering fixtures involving the continent’s best clubs set up.
Defending African champions Al Ahly SC will face Tanzanian heavyweights Simba Sports Club while ASEC Mimosas of Ivory come up against Espérance Sportive de Tunis.
South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns will face Tanzania’s second envoys Yanga Sports Club in another exciting clash.
