At least five people have been confirmed confirmed dead with others still buried and yet to be recovered after a local school building collapsed in the Democratic Republic of Congo city of Bukavu in South Kivu Province.
On the Thursday, local authorities in Bukavu revealed that five people had been discovered dead so far after the wall of an uncompleted house still under construction fell on the school building that collapsed on at the premise.
Gentil Kulimushi, President of Bagira community civil society in Bukavu, revealed the death toll in the disaster was set to rise as more people were still buried in the collapsed building’s debris.
“There are already five dead and two people still to be found after this tragedy” Kulimushi said in a brief interview with the Actualite.cd
Meanwhile, the Bukavu Municipal Council revealed that four of dead people in the tragic incidence are teachers at the school named Omega School in Bagira.
“Our report shows four dead, all of them part of the teaching staff and more than five others are stuck in the rubble” Bagira community chairperson Patience Bengheya said.
The tragic incidence occured on Thursday afternoon after the school welcomed a crowd of parents looking to enroll their children at the school.
