The Democratic Republic of Congo’s ruling Sacred Union coalition is about to be befallen with divisions as main leaders Félix Tshisekedi and Vital Kamerhe seemingly battle for political popularity.
Seizing the advantage to win over the Congolese population, Kamerhe, the Speaker of the National Assembly and leader of the UNC party, has embarked on a mission to find solutions to the ongoing security crisis in the east.
Kamerhe visited Johannesburg, South Africa before taking off to Tel-Aviv in Israel on a discreet tour to seek help in the fight against AFC/M23 rebels.
In this new contest for attention and popularity, Félix Tshisekedi’s UDPS party members are accusing Kamerhe of harboring a hidden agenda.
The Congolese National Assembly speaker has nonetheless continued his “diplomatic tour” to try to influence the course of the war against the M23 rebels.
Kamerhe has always been seen as a threat within the Sacred Union to Tshisekedi having not proven his loyalty to the coalition’s chosen president.
