Moïse Katumbi did not flee the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as claimed by war crimes ex-convict Jean-Pierre Bemba, the opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique party leader’s spokesperson Olivier Kamitatu has clarified.
On Monday, Bemba went on a private radio station, TopCongo, and falsely claimed that Katumbi had fled the DR Congo from Lubumbashi via Zambia after a failed attempt to eliminate current president Félix Tshisekedi.
However, Kamitatu has strongly refuted Bemba’s claims stating that Katumbi had left the country legally and provided proof of the civil aviation and immigration authorities’ approval of his departure.
“Moïse Katumbi did not flee from Lubumbashi. He went free with the authorization of civil aviation, under the control of the state, the government. His passport bears the official stamp of the DGM,” Kamitatu in a video uploaded on his official X account.
To shame the former warlord’s false claims, Kamitatu further uploaded photos of Katumbi’s passport page carrying his details and approval of the authorities prior to his departure.

Bemba lied to the DR Congo that Katumbi and former republican president Joseph Kabila along with members of the catholic body, CENCO-ECC had plotted to assassinate Tshisekedi.
