The United Nations (UN) Security Council have officially authorized the SADC Mission troops deployed in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo to attack the rampant M23 rebel fighters.
This in a reaction to the latest series of clashes between the Congolese army (FARDC) supported other local groups as well as the M23 rebels near the strategic city of Goma.
In a press statement released on May 5th, SADC announced the commencement of joint military operations with the Congolese armed forces against the M23.
The authorization by the UN Security Council also comes a few days after the bombing of two displaced people’s camps in Goma by suspected M23 terrorists.
