BARREN DRAW: Mazembe Held at Home by Algerian Side

Five-time African champions TP Mazembe have been held to a barren draw by Algerian side MC Alger in their opening TotalEnergies CAF Champions League group stage match.

After a mixed season so far, Mazembe looked to bag all three points in their opening Group A encounter played at the Stade de TP Mazembe this afternoon.

Senegalese gaffer Lamine N’Diaye once again had to make do with his much depleted side with captain Magloire Ntambwe, Oscar Kabwit and Nigerien midfielder Ousseini Badamassi the most notable names in the starting eleven while Nigerian goalkeeper-now-turned-striker Suleman Shaibu came off the bench.

The sides tasted fair share of the ball possession but could not go passed each other’s defences as the match ended in a scoreless draw.

Mazembe’s next match in Group A is an away fixture on December 8th against Sudanese giants Al Hilal SC who beat Yanga SC 2-0 in Tanzania yesterday.
