Democratic Republic of Congo’s government of Félix Tshisekedi has confirmed that it remains keen on negotiating with Rwanda through the Luanda Peace Process despite the latter’s manoeuvres.
The Minister of State in charge of Foreign Affairs, Thérèse Kayikwamba says government have no choice but to wait for Rwanda to come to a round table for the restoration of peace in the eastern region.
Kayikwamba further added that the solution to the security crisis between the DRC and Rwanda only lies in dialogue through the mediation of Luanda, Angola.
She further reiterated the Government’s position on wanting peace in the face of the escalation of the M23 rebels and respected the authority of the mediator for peace talks with Rwanda, President Joao Lourenco of Angola.
On 15th December 2024, Rwandan President Paul Kagame did not show up for planned dialogue meeting with his Congolese counterpart Félix Tshisekedi who remains under pressure due to the M23 rebels’ advancement which is backed by Rwanda.
