North Kivu Military Governor Major General Peter Cirimwami has announced new security measures to be implemented in the city of Goma following news of the arrival of political-military coalition, Congo River Alliance leader Corneille Nangaa.
In his message to the DR Congo’s Armed Forces on Thursday, Nangaa announced his presence in Nyiragongo territory, just 12 kilometers from Goma, having spent the past few days in the hills of Masisi territory, northeast of the city where there has been violent clashes between Congolese army and rebel forces.
The authorities in Goma have seemingly been threatened by Nangaa’s arrival in Nyiragongo territory with Maj. Gen. Cirimwami confirming new decree rigorous control of all entries and exits of citizens from February 1, 2024.
From now on, each Congolese will have to be identified and scanned thoroughly upon arrival and departure from Goma.
Nangaa, a former President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), recently formed the Congo River Alliance with the M23 Rebel Group with the aim of safeguarding human rights and fighting in particular against the plundering of Congolese resources.
