ARMY INFILTRATED: Congo Army Recruit of Five M23 Rebels

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s armed forces (FARDC) have announced that it has captured five rebels M23 militia group who have since joined the force to help in the against the agitators in the eastern part of the country.

According to FARDC spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Mak Hazukay, the rebels surrendered to army soldiers after refusing to fight for the M23 during an attack by launched by militia group in the the Armed Forces’ territories of Vitshumbi, Kyaghala and Yghobora in Rutshuru area.

“5 M23 fighters refused to fight for Rwanda during the attack on FARDC positions in Vitshumbi, Kyaghala and Yghoboro,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mak Hazukay.

In addition, Colonel Hazukay revealed that these rebels had been recruited to join the army and help with information and specified that these one-time enemies of the state will be in the hands of specialized security services for exploitation.

It should be noted that these 5 elements of the M23 is the second batch to surrender and be recruited in the army after 3 others who had also surrendered to the Congolese army the previous week in what is increasingly been considered as a risk for possible infiltration of the armed force in the east.
