ARMY FERMENT TURMOIL: Four Civilians Killed in M23 Retaliation Bombings Following Calamitous Army Attack

The security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s eastern region is deteriorating as the M23 rebels have gone on rampage in retaliating to attacks launched on them by the Congolese army and their supporting local militia group, the Wazalendo.

On Friday, at least four civilians were killed while on the way to their farming fields near the town of city of Sake following a bombing attack by the M23 who were retaliating to Congolese army who launched an ambush near a civilians’ territory.

According to local sources have noted that the situation remains extremely volatile around Sake as well as in the neighboring Kanyabayonga territory as the army struggle to contain the rebels.

Sake and surrounding areas have been turned into a battlefield between the Congolese army, its allies and the M23 rebels with the former calling for additional force from the SADC deployed elements from South Africa who recorded the death of one of its soldiers with 13 others injured.

On the northern front, the situation is also tense in the north of the Bwito chiefdom, following the advancement of the M23 rebels who have seized the village of Bulundi, about ten kilometers from the rural commune of Kanyabayonga.
