If the situation of truck drivers is left to the Democratic Republic of Congo alone, it will never be resolved. The red-tape, corruption, insecurity and broad daylight criminality is putting truck drivers from other countries at a risk.
The DRC has a duty to protect those who visit and those who are doing business with the country. There is absolutely no way that truck drivers from various countries are spending weeks in the queue to clear merchandise.
Anyone who understands and appreciates the importance of the southern borders such as Kasumbalesa, Kipushi, Mokambo, Sakanya and others knows what that corridor means to us as a country.
The inhuman treatment of foreign drivers must stop. These harassments must come to an end. Just hear out one of the drivers. It should never be a nightmare for truck drivers to enter the DRC.
ONE TRUCK DRIVER WRITES
As am writing am in the Q to Mutaka (near Kolwezi) and I have spent five days just pushing the Q, the worst part about this delay is no toilet, no water and being arrested for no good reasons by the soldiers and police. If u get a break down on the road just know u r busted, expect police or soldiers to visit yo truck in few minutes and grab all yo belonging. The government should remove all the small check points, the people here don’t have anything to do, no job the only thing they see all the time is trucks so the sort to do what they do. We drivers are suffering here in Congo.
