SEEKING MILITARY SUPPORT: DR Congo Signs Agreement with Russia to Help End War in the East

The DR Congo government have a defense partnership agreement with Russia from whom they have solicited for military support in order to cease the war in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The partnership agreement between the DR Congo and Russia was signed on Saturday at the Siriues University of Science and Technology in the city of Sochi, Russia.

DR Congo’s impostor president Félix Tshisekedi has long pursued the support of Russia to help fight the M23 rebels in the east which has been ravaged by war.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Thérése Kayikwamba signed the agreement on behalf of the DR Congo while her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov represented his nation.

Kayikwamba went on to praise the role Russia has played in helping to solve the “worrying” situation in the east.

“We are grateful for the unfailing support of Russia on which we are counting,” Kayikwamba said, “In 2025, we will have a special year for our two States. The year which will mark the 65th anniversary of the independence of the Democratic Republic of Congo, of course, but also the 65th anniversary of our bilateral relations. And the Russian University of Friendship Patrice Emery Lumumba is therefore part of this historic year,” she added.

In exchange of Russia’s military support, Tshisekedi is said to given the Kremlin access to uranium especially the one found at Shinkolobwe which is near Likasi in Katanga region.
